THIGH
MUSCLES: ANTERIOR COMPARTMENT
|
|||||||||
Sarcopterygian fish evolved muscles in their fins which move the fins. |

The anterior compartment of the thigh in humans contains the sartorius and
the quadriceps (rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, and vastus
intermedius). In humans, the sartorius
flexes the thigh, flexes the lower leg, and medially rotates the thigh. While all of the quadriceps extend the knee,
only the rectus femoris crosses the hip joint so it is the only one of the
quadriceps which flexes the hip. These
muscles are typical of tetrapods. |
