†† Unlike animals, plants cannot seek each other out to allow sexual reproduction to occur.Although many plants can reproduce asexually by fertilizing themselves, there are definite long-term benefits to sexual reproduction, such as the ability to adapt to new environments and resist new diseases.Plants which sexually reproduce need some way of transporting the sperm in the pollen to the ova of different flowers.

††† Many flowers do not depend on animals to pollinate them, instead relying on wind or water.Often these flowers arenít noticed because they donít produce the obvious petals or sweet aromas typical of flowers which are trying to attract animals.Most grasses produce flowers which are pollinated by the wind, such as those pictured below.
