PICKEREL FROG

     Pickerel Frogs (Rana palustris) breed from March to May.  They secrete a noxious substance in their skin which discourages predators.  Pickerel frogs inhabit aquatic areas and damp meadows.

SOUTHERN LEOPARD FROG

     Southern Leopard Frogs (Rana sphenocephala) can breed all throughout the year in the southern U.S.  Southern New York is the northern limit of their range.  They are found near water.
