GULLS AND TERNS

Family Laridae

      Most gulls have a good amount of white plumage as adults, although their plumage is typically grayer as juveniles.  Although they are primarily found in coastal areas, they have adapted to a number of habitats and including urban environments where they can feed on human garbage.

Gulls are omnivores which can include a variety of food items in their diets.

Herring gulls can feed on a variety of food items ranging from fish to eggs to detritus.  Unlike many gulls, they can inhabit inland regions.
