PLOVERS

Plovers are small birds which are typically found along shorelines, although they can inhabit a variety of habitats.  They have large eyes and short bills.  Their diet consists primarily of invertebrates, although some plant material can also be included.  A female mountain plover which has laid a clutch of eggs may leave the male to incubate them while she mates with a second male to produce a second nest.  Their nests are typically depressions scraped in the ground which may be lined with vegetation or shells.

 KILLDEER
