GREAT HORNED OWL

Great horned owls feed primarily on mammals such as rodents, rabbits, skunks, and porcupines but can also eat birds, reptiles, and amphibians.  These owls typically weigh more than 1.2 kg but can reach 1.8 kg.  They are easy to identify since no other owl of this size has ear tufts and no other brown owl reaches this size.   Territories are often about 60 hectares (radius of about .4 km).  Eggs are laid in late February.
