NORTHERN HARRIER

Northern harriers inhabit marshes and open land. Males are smaller than females (as is typical in raptors) and help with the care of the young. They feed on rodents and other small animals. They are capable of including a variety of prey items in their diet from insects of 6 grams to birds of 900 grams. It is not uncommon for harriers to possess relationships other than those of monogamous pairs (Johnsgard, 1990).
