SHARP SHINNED HAWK
ACCIPITER HAWKS
Accipiter hawks can be recognized in flight by their narrow tail and shorter wings.Male sharp shinned hawks can weigh less than 3 ounces and, since this is slightly less than a kestrel, represent the smallest raptor in the U.S. (Weidensaul, 2000).

Sharp shinned hawks feed on small birds, rodents, and insects which inhabit woodlands. The birds most often included in their diet are sparrows and robins (Johnsgard, 1990).
